About

Kathy Whiteside

“I come from the heart of West Texas where creative types learn early to appreciate atypical types of beauty. Never remembering a time when I didn’t think of myself as an artist, my days were endless hours of drawing while watching old movies, the “in-doorsy” type. Fueled by my scrap paper sketchbooks and an easel, all made by my father, I received plenty of unconditional love and support to pursue my art.

After attending the University of Texas and Texas Tech University, I acquired a BFA and MFA in print making and painting, respectively. Life brought marriage, three children, and a number of art-related day jobs – needlepoint designer, store display designer, decorator, art teacher and gallery director, while struggling to keep my studio work in the picture. I have had gallery representation since 1983. Since returning to the studio full time in 2002, I have enjoyed annual solo exhibitions.

I’m lucky to have a supportive family and to be able to spend my days doing what I love.”
